Play your PodVisit on Church Moor - along with Cranes Moor beyond, they form one of around 90 bogs and mires in the New Forest. They are important wildlife habitats and tranquil open spaces.
The tracks which cross the moor were used by animal herders but also by warriors - the Avon Valley was the scene of fierce battles between native Celtic Britons and Saxon invaders.
To visit the iron age hill fort at Castle Hill (18) from the village centre, walk towards Burley Street along the Ringwood Road and follow the signs to Castle Hill via Castle Hill Lane.
Castle Hill Lane also passes Burley Beacon (20) and there are paths leading from the hill top down to Church Moor (19) at Burnt Axon where the path continues to Long Pond.
Church Moor and Castle Hill can also be accessed from the Vales Moor car park.

Car parking is available in the centre of Burley village. Parking is also available at Vales Moor for walking to the top of Castle Hill.
There are pubs, restaurants and tea rooms as well as public toilet facilities available in Burley village.
Green Tips: Food and drink which is grown or produced in the New Forest is low on 'food miles' and helps the local economy.
Burley is on the New Forest Cycle Network - a cycle route runs along the top of the ridge from Castle Hill to Burley Beacon and down to the Village - using your bike saves pollution, eases conjestion and is good exercise. Leave your car at home and use the New Forest Tour bus in summer.
